December is National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month

In 2010 President Barack Obama announced December as Impaired Driving Prevention Month. His official proclamation can be read here.

In addition to the basics of preventing alcohol related accidents, our goal is to educate our patients on the risks associated with medication-related accidents. Both OTC and prescription medications are capable of causing impairment.

  • You should always read all warnings on your prescription.
  • Be aware of any warnings specifically advising not to operate heavy machinery or vehicles.
  • Never operate a vehicle or machinery on a new medication – be sure you know how your body will react to a medication

In Delaware if you are pulled over and under the influence of drugs, even if it is a medication which has been legally prescribed to you, you may be charged with a DUI.
